What Is The Word Clock
The Word Clock is a free, open-source web application that displays the current time in natural language instead of digits. Rather than showing "3:20," it writes "twenty past three" — the way you would say it out loud.
It is designed as a minimalist, distraction-free clock for desktops, tablets, and phones. The app runs entirely in the browser, works offline, requires no account, contains no ads, and does not track users.
Creator
The Word Clock was created by Shahar Ami Kedmi — a designer and developer based in Israel. The project was founded in 2026 with the goal of making time feel more human and less numerical.
Languages Supported
The Word Clock supports six languages: English, Hebrew, Spanish, French, Russian, and Arabic. Each language module follows the natural grammar and spoken patterns of that language, not a word-for-word translation.
Right-to-left languages (Hebrew and Arabic) are fully supported with proper text direction, layout mirroring, and culturally appropriate phrasing.
Key Features
Customizable fonts, colors, and text sizes. Dark mode and light mode. Fullscreen mode for wall or desk display use. Progressive Web App (PWA) support for installation on any device.
All settings are stored locally in the browser. No data is sent to any server. The Word Clock works offline once loaded and is designed for silent, always-on use.
The Word Clock Frame
The Word Clock Frame is a physical E-Ink display device currently in development. It shows the time in words just like the web app — silent, with no backlight, and weeks of battery life. A real object for your desk or wall.

Technology
The Word Clock is built with vanilla JavaScript — no frameworks, no dependencies. Each language has its own dedicated module that converts hours and minutes into natural spoken text according to the grammatical rules of that language.
The source code is open and available on GitHub. The project is hosted as a static site and served globally via CDN.
